Project 52, week 17: Rays. I had several ideas involving the sun and mist or clouds, but the weather has been far from ideal this week. I was inspired by underwater photos with sunlight refracting through the surface of the water and decided to go for an underwater scene as an alternative. Since the only glass container I have that has straight sides measures about 10cm in width and height, I had to be microscopic about things. This is a tiny glass pyramid in a bed of sand, lit from below by a power LED flashlight. I coloured the water with some paint (otherwise you can’t see the rays of light), and back-lit the scene with an RGB-LED lightbulb.

Lessons learned: focusing under water is a pain. So is lighting under water. Sand gets everywhere. A bare high power LED still is a nice light source.
