This is the cover of my Master’s thesis entitled “A Smart Camera Platform for Smart Signs: Visual Tag Recognition Using Computer Vision”. I designed and implemented a software system that could detect and read circular barcodes in video captured by a (web)cam(era), to be used in the Smart Signs system.
For this photo, I put one such barcode in front of my wide angle lens, and lit it with an LED flashlight (the same light used for ‘Under Construction’) so that it reflected onto my camera. After a bit of tweaking, I managed to capture more than 12 separate reflections (even though only about 4 are apparent at first glance in this image). For the background I used a book about the Smart Surroundings project, during which Smart Signs was partly developed.
