Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown, NZ, taken in the direction of Glenorchy. On our drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy and Paradise beyond, Gerdi and I feasted our eyes on this beautiful spectacle. In my opinion, this is the prettiest photo I’ve taken in NZ — I’ve got in on my bedroom wall at A0 size! This place was dubbed “Wizard’s Vale” by Alan Lee, conceptual artist (and more) for the “The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy. It reminded him of what he pictured the area around Isengard would look like. Parts of the surrounding area were used as background art for the movies.
