Eleven Years

Today it’s been 11 years since the fireworks depot in Roombeek, Enschede exploded, destroying most of the neighbourhood and killing 23 people. This monument was placed on ‘ground zero’ to commemorate those people and the disaster. Though of course the disaster was a tragedy, Roombeek has been restored and rebuilt into (one of) the prettiest and architecturally most interesting parts of the city.
