While Lake Matheson is New Zealand’s most famous mirror lake, the best “mirror lake experience” my girlfriend and I had during our holiday in NZ was at Lake Mahinapua, about 10km south of Hokitika. We were there in the morning and the lake’s surface was perfectly smooth. After we enjoyed the view for a while, we started skipping pebbles on the water, which resulted in this photo where you can actually see the pebble hovering above the water, and its reflection.
